Compassionate Project Worker puts Charity at the heart of 30 by 30 Birthday Bucket List

Charity Project Worker Amber Pidgeon is set to run the Doncaster 10K this November to raise essential funds for the Green Gables Mini Bus Campaign. Amber, who is 29, set herself a 30 by 30 challenge earlier this year, combining a love for adventure with a passion for charity fundraising.

YWCA Yorkshire’s Green Gables supports women, children and families across Doncaster to create better futures. Through bespoke packages of housing and wrap-around support, the expert team have been working with families locally for more than 20 years, helping people to address and rebuild their lives following domestic abuse, homelessness, financial hardship and family breakdowns.

Earlier this year, Green Gables launched a campaign to raise money for a special transport service to help families living across the city to access essential support programmes, skills training, health and wellbeing appointments and groups. The services and networks provided by Green Gables and charity partners are a lifeline to Doncaster’s communities - but affordable and accessible transport is a barrier. The Green Gables Mini Bus Campaign seeks to address this.

Amber has already raised £115 for the cause, collecting sponsorship for a daring zip wire challenge this summer. The Doncaster 10k will be a personal first and another opportunity for Amber to raise awareness and funds for the charity.

Green Gables Project Worker, Amber Pidgeon, said: “In my role, I see firsthand the impact our support and housing has for families. The right help at the right time can change the trajectory of a person's life forever and with a dedicated transport service, we can break down the barriers preventing people from accessing that support.

“I only started running this year and the furthest I’ve run is 5k so this is a huge personal challenge for me, but nothing compared to the daily challenges faced by families we work with. This will be my motivation on the day and I’m just hoping that I can raise some more money for Green Gables and families in Doncaster.”

The Doncaster 10k will be held on 24 November 2024. Amber hopes to smash her previous fundraising total and anyone that would like to back her efforts, can donate to the Green Gables Mini Bus Campaign and leave a message of support for Amber’s 10K run.
