Thousands raised for Doncaster Charity by South Yorkshire Communities this Christmas
South Yorkshire residents have raised a whopping £2,797 over the Christmas period for young women, children and families in Doncaster supported by YWCA Yorkshire’s Green Gables.
A total of £1522 was raised by families visiting Santa’s Sleigh as he toured Tesco Wath-Upon Dearne and Tesco Hoyland this December.
These funds are to be added to the £1275.00 raised by Mexborough business Heavenly Hairspray and Autosupplies (Chesterfield) Ltd, supporting Christmas for Doncaster families and contributing to the Green Gables Minibus campaign.
Families will also benefit from donations of new, nearly new, and homemade toys and treats, as well as stocking items gifted directly from businesses and individuals and those donated via the YWCA Yorkshire Wishlist. Meaning that every Green Gables child will get a present this Christmas, and we hope that every family will feel connected and cared for.
Christmas officially launched at Green Gables when the Mexborough Community Group and Ward Member Cllr Bev Chapman joined residents and the charity team for the official Christmas Lights Switch on. Swiftly followed by an outpouring of support from local businesses and groups donating selection boxes and supplies.
This week families met at Green Gables for a Christmas Party where they were joined by friends from across Doncaster. Festive food was donated by community group Tangent, and presents were gifted by long-term charity supporters S2S Group. S2S Group make collections for Green Gables all year round and these are used to incentivise families through YWCA Yorkshire’s Life Skills Programme. They also donate equipment to aid the charity team in their roles providing inclusive, compassionate and expert support to local families. YWCA Yorkshire Green Gables supports families who have experienced domestic violence, homelessness, relationship breakdowns and financial hardship. Thanks to the support of residents and businesses this year, Christmas will be brighter for vulnerable families living in Doncaster. South Yorkshire – you are incredible! Merry Christmas.
