Support women and girls in South Yorkshire this International Women’s Day
South Yorkshire-based women’s charity is appealing to people and businesses to support the advancement of local women and girls this International Women’s Day; 8 March 2024.
International Women’s Day is a time for unity, celebration and advocacy. It is also a time to talk about the vital work of female focused charities working locally and an opportunity to reach out for much needed support from donors. Without the generosity of charity donations, YWCA Yorkshire could not support women, children and their families to build better futures in South Yorkshire. Will you donate to a women’s charity on 8 March? It could make all the difference!
Money raised this International Women’s Day will be used to buy essential items for young women to build a home and access health and wellbeing support, training and education. And this year, YWCA Yorkshire have ambitions to raise enough money to fund a dedicated counselling service for women and girls across Doncaster, Sheffield and Rotherham, many of whom have experienced homelessness, trauma, sexual and domestic violence. The charity is calling out to local people and businesses to donate directly for the advancement of women and girls in the region, via their Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/ywca-yorkshire.
Businesses and community groups may also like to contact the charity’s Chief Executive directly to arrange a presentation: tracy.gollins@ywcayorkshire.org.uk.
YWCA Yorkshire, Chief Executive, Tracy Gollins, said: “We know that on International Women’s Day many people choose to give directly to charities that work for the advancement of women and girls. Donating directing to a charity like ours means addressing inequality and helping to support important work to empower women right here in South Yorkshire.
“With increased running costs and ever-growing levels of need for our services, collectively your donations could make a significant difference to the lives of many. In Sheffield, we support young women aged 16 to 25 years old who are homeless. In Rotherham and Doncaster, we work directly with young mums or mums-to-be, who might not have the security of friends or family to fall back on in hard times, and who need a safe and secure place to live, expert support and compassion.
“This International Women’s Day, you can help us address the stark inequalities experienced by young women in our communities. We work with resilient women to change the trajectory of a person’s life through safe and warm accommodation, early years parenting support, access to education, trauma-informed health and wellbeing support, and expert assistance to leave and recover from abusive relationships. Will you donate to women’s charity on 8 March?”
YWCA Yorkshire is part of a global network of charities and organisations that are fighting for social justice and equality for women. On International Women’s Day specifically, women’s charities have an opportunity to speak out, raise awareness and funds to empower, uplift, support, advocate for, and celebrate women.
YWCA Yorkshire supports more than 250 women, children and families to build better futures in Doncaster, Sheffield and Rotherham. The charity works with people through three housing projects and out in the community. People are referred to YWCA Yorkshire through health, housing and community services and the team of 50 specialist staff work closely with partners across South Yorkshire to ensure that women in need of support, have access to it.
The charity prioritises vulnerable people in those critical early years of a child’s life, supporting people who care for a child to access professionals, build networks and lay down the foundations for better futures.
