Daring Project Worker Launches Minibus Fundraiser in Doncaster
Charity Project Worker, Amber Pidgeon, raises £115 and launches the Green Gables Minibus fundraising campaign: Green Gables Mini Bus - JustGiving
In a hair-raising feat of courage and, let’s face it, a little bit of madness, Amber travelled to North Wales to go head-to-head with Europe's longest, and the world's fastest, zipline. Amber channelled her bravery and love for adventure into kick starting the Green Gables fundraiser, supporting the charity she has worked for since 2017. No stranger to danger, Amber’s previous fundraising efforts have included jumping out of a plane and scuba diving.
As a Project Worker at YWCA Yorkshire, Green Gables, Amber knows firsthand the impact these funds will have on families in Doncaster. Green Gables works with 75 families across the city, providing safe housing and wrap-around support to people who have experienced homelessness, domestic abuse, financial hardship and parenting breakdowns. Whilst core services and staff are paid for through local authority funding, the charity relies on additional funds, volunteers, and local partnerships to deliver the bespoke support that women, children and families need to build better futures in Doncaster.
The recently launched Green Gables Minibus Fundraisers aims to raise £15,000 to purchase and run a transport service for women, children and families locally. The minibus is for people in Doncaster who need to access life-changing support and opportunities.
YWCA Yorkshire Project Worker, Amber Pidgeon, said: “We work with parents to build homes and better futures for themselves and their children right here in Doncaster. The people we work with often don't have the safetynet of friends and family to fall back on. Our services and networks are their lifeline - but affordable, accessible transport is a barrier.
“The Green Gables minibus will make a huge difference to the people we support locally. It will help them to access life changing opportunities including support groups, health appointments, education, training, childcare and wellbeing activities.
“I’m excited to get us off the ground – literally - with this fundraiser, and I hope this encourages more people to get involved. Every little bit of support will help us move towards our goal; charity-runs, sponsored walks, bake sales, collections – whatever you are into!”
