YWCA Yorkshire's Peile House Team have been named as ‘Team of the Year’ by Sheffield Cares Excellence Awards. The team will join Sheffield City Council as they celebrate incredible social care staff and volunteers at a special awards ceremony in February 2025.

The award is a testament to the exceptional support demonstrated by Peile House, the team’s ability to work together to create inclusive and compassionate relationships, and their outstanding dedication to making a difference to communities in Sheffield.

The Peile House team live and breathe their values; providing inclusive, compassionate and expert support to young homeless women aged 16 to 25.

Peile House residents are vulnerable young adults with complex care needs. They may be care leavers or people who have slipped through the care net. They may be escaping an arranged marriage, domestic abuse or sexual exploitation. They come to Peile House because they are homeless, but their needs go far beyond housing services.

Every team member, from the night-worker to the housekeeper to the manager, all work to one mission; helping young women and their children create better futures.

Over half the women supported have experienced domestic violence, parental violence or sexual abuse and over 80 percent have poor mental health. In the last 12-months Peile House has supported 18 women out of homelessness and into safety.

Peile House Project Manager, Claire Harding, said: “Our expert team spans the care sector specialisms; supporting vulnerable adults, young people with mental health difficulties and learning disabilities.

Deeply embedded in the communities we serve; our team demonstrates remarkable commitment to building inclusive and compassionate relationships with the women we support.

“We take a whole-community approach and collaborate with social workers, safeguarding, police, mental health workers, drug and alcohol services. Because of the trusted relationships that young people build with us, we’re able to advocate for and empower young women to create better futures for themselves.

“We are thrilled to be recognised by Sheffield Cares Excellence Awards and to win the ‘Team of the Year’ accolade at this prestigious event.”
