Stacey was pregnant and living in a flat with her partner, Lee. Lee was very controlling; checking her phone, putting her down and preventing her from contacting her friends and family. Stacey's confidence and self-esteem was increasingly being undermined, then Lee left her to return to his ex-partner. Following a period of further abuse, Lee and his friends damaged Stacey's accommodation which meant that she also faced homelessness. Stacey came to live at YWCA where she could concentrate on her pregnancy in a safe place and regain her self esteem. Programmes such as Escape the TRAP and Freedom helped her to recognise that Lee's controlling and abusive behaviour was not her fault, and gave her the tools so that she could prevent entering into an abusive relationship in the future. Stacey is now in a new and healthy relationship with a man who respects her and supports her with her child. She has also returned to college where she hopes to get the qualifications to become a nurse.
