You and Me, Mum
You & Me, Mum is a 10 week programme, developed by Women’s Aid, for mothers. The course will help you understand how domestic violence affects you as a parent and how it affects your children. It will help you to safely explore the impact domestic abuse may have had on the relationship between you and your children. It will empower, support and develop further understanding of your role as a mother in addressing the needs of your children who have lived with domestic abuse.
The course focuses on self-empowerment and mutual aid. It recognises the central role of mothers in the protection and positive development of their children.
Objectives:
To understand how domestic violence affects you as parent.
To understand the effects of domestic violence on children and young people.
To develop effective communication skills with children & young people.
To promote healthy and nonviolent relationships.
To explore key Protective Behaviour messages and strategies for keeping mothers, children and young people safe.
This course is not suitable for women who are still living with or have a relationship with a perpetrator of domestic abuse. It is open to women with children of all ages. There is no direct work done with the children.
We welcome self-referrals from women wishing to access support with their parenting. We can also accept referrals from professionals; however please see above that the women should not be in a current abusive relationship.
